Six thousand coal mines will be shut down over the next two years for improving workplace safety in China.
Vice-Premier Zhang Dejiang said:
By the end of 2010, China will have less than 10,000 mines, down from about 16,000 today.

World bank has allocated $9.3 million for a Mining Sector Technical assistance project in Mongolia, primarily aimed at improving country’s ability to regulate its mining industry, reduce government corruption and reap financial benefits.
The project will result in increased availability of geological data and support programs to reduce the health and safety related risks for miners.
